  1. PART 1 DISCUSSION A'S
    1. Inspite of all the negative things happening in Chicago like murders, death, greed, the positive things there overshadows it. Chicago got the fair because it is a city full of pride. It is a world leader that is growing economically and socially despite of all the setbacks such as depression and great Chicago fire of 1871. People like Daniel Burnham lives there who are morally good and hard working . Most of all people in Chicago dreams to outdo the recent Paris fair. And also became the 2nd most populous city in the nation taking Philadelphia’s place.

    2. The Gilded Age was a time in which US was thriving economically. It's cities were growing and so was their arts. Us pride was a huge deal. So the world's Columbian exposition was to show the world how US was growing and becoming a major power. H.H Holmes was a perfect example of endless corruption during Glded Age.

    3. For a great fair the wave of financial damage was troubling. The global economy was threatening the success of the fair before it was even built. Corporations and financial institutions started fearing extinction. A blanket of concern covered those involved in creating a fair in Chicago that far exceeds Paris exposition. They started worrying about their fulfillment of dream to outdo Paris fair and whether it will be profitable. They worried economy would allow building a fair grander than Paris exposition and visitors would be able to attend it. Especially those visitors who would have to buy an overnight train ticket, especially with railroads having no plans to have discount on their Chicago fares exposition. Doubts bagen to arise if fair can be built in established time frame.

    4. To some extent Burnham's decision to hire architects from outside Chicago was betrayal to Chicago's pride because the architects felt betrayed for not being sought after immediately by virtue of association with the cityand yet on being a part of fair's creation. Also, instead of hiring architects in Chicago, they were hiring outsiders. However, at the same time it it also embodies the spirit of world's fair which will help to shatter the perception that Chicago won't be able to produce a sophisticated fair. Also every country should get part in helipng to build fair in order to appreciate Columbus's discovery, and make a fair that goes above and beyong Paris exposition by working with famous and successful architects.

    5. While grieveing the loss of his partner and friend John Root, Burnham's pride motiviates him to continue with his work after thinking of quitting the fair. His pride hurt and he convinces himself to carry on when newspaper implied that nobody can pick up with fair after Root left off and that Root death meant end off exposition and thus American dreams of having great exposition becuase he was a guiding force behind the fair. He was getting all the credit of being the partner who had propelled the Burnham and Root firm for greater achievement when in reality all these achievements were of Burnham.
After Root's death Burnham would face daunting challenges, his insecurities of lack of formal education would be a way he would be criticized, Lyman Gage anounced to quit as president, labor unrest and monopolies.
